TIPS FOR TODAY

You might be thinking, “There’s no way I can learn this in 10 minutes.”
Good — because you’re not supposed to.

The goal isn’t to perfect the challenge in ten minutes. It’s to introduce your fingers and your brain to something new so they’ll be a little smoother the next time you sit down with a similar skill.

Motor-learning research shows that short, imperfect reps create more progress than long, grinding sessions. Ten minutes keeps your brain sharp, your hands relaxed, and the habit alive.

And here’s the quiet superpower of the 10-minute rule: it gets you started. Most people end up playing longer because once you’re in motion, the fun takes over.

So today, just touch the new idea a few times. Let that be enough.

Ten minutes builds momentum — and momentum builds players.

  1. Yamaha Pacifica 112V but also switching with Fender FA125CE, both pretty budget guitars and I do plan to upgrade as my skills improve. I want to restrict myself on a new purchase and earn it first with lots of practice.

  2. I’m currently exclusively playing my Cordoba GK Studio Negra nylon string acoustic. It’s easiest on my hands at the moment. My other main acoustic is a Washburn jumbo maple.

  3. I have a Yamaha LL6 acoustic. I had a hard time ‘mastering’ it, but I knew when I tried it out (without even knowing how to play!) that it was the one I wanted, and 3 years later, I just love it!

  4. Im not able to navigate access well using my phone. Its too confusing as I don’t know the string names. I think you’ve lost me.

  5. I am playing on a Fener Starcaster electric guitar. The action is a little bit lighter than my Acoustic Guitar so it is a bit easier to play. I wish I would have found a teacher like Tony about 50 years ago. I have taken lessons from time to Time and I knew that this was the way I wanted to be taught. There is a lot going on now with the holidays so I am having some difficulty getting to the lessons but I will finish the 5 lessons and join up.

  6. Hi Tony! I joined last week but couldn’t get down to playing. Started today and already progressing – so cool. I’m playing a Martin DX 1 Dreadnought with battery connection rolling around inside – need to get that fixed! Have had it since 2005 and playing very on and off since, but love playing. Will finish the 5-day Dead instruction then join up. Thanks Daniel

  7. Picking up a guitar again at 71 years old. Last played in the early 70’s. Just retired and I’m looking for a challenge. Starting over again. At least I remember most of my chords. Bought a Taylor 210 new in 2005. Still in the case

  8. I am a 71 yr old and have been playing guitar since I was 8 yrs old. I started on a used Gibson 3/4 size acoustic. My go to is a 1975/76 Tama lawsuit era copy of the Martin D28 which I bought new in 1976. I love the sound, the feel and the playability of that guitar. I am doing the challenge because I am checking out lesson programs for one of my grandsons who will be getting a guitar for Christmas.

  9. Your website doesn’t play well with my tablet. Long time to load everything. Yesterday was confirmed today with confusion over which strings are which. I don’t know which is the G. Got the rhythm on the 6th and 5th strings yesterday then 1st half of lick today. Lots of time rewinding lesson video to get what you are saying. Playing Martin little Martin.i’m 60 year old only plucked some licks and strummed a few cords. Cleaning out attic and it’s either play it or donate it.

  10. I am playing a an early 90’s Fender Jaguar. I know it isn’t an acoustic, but it is the one guitar I have held on to over the years.

  11. Cort AD Mimi and a Fender DG27SCE electric/acoustic. Been playing off and on for years more off than on. Getting ready to retire and I’m determined to become campfire KING!

  12. Washburn WA90. I turned 50 this year and was telling my family how cool it would be to play guitar well, here we are. They got me this guitar this past Christmas. I look forward to learning how to play.

  13. I have an Ibanez PF5 dread. I’m also a lefty! FYI, kids got me a Taylor GS Mini for Christmas. Cant wait to get my hands on it!
