About Me

I am new to guitar.  I decided to learn guitar after 22 years as a saxophonist.  I played sax in school, college, and a little professional performing with a blues band, and later, a rock band.  I don’t play sax much anymore, but I still have that itch for music, so I thought guitar would be a great instrument to pick up.  My dad has always played guitar, so that certainly helps.  I did a lot of research and decided on the Seagull S6 Original (lefty).  I love it!  I’m very much a beginner, but I’m enjoying the challenge and reward of learning something new.  Being married, it can sometimes be difficult to find times to practice.  I don’t want to annoy my wife with my guitar plinking while she is trying to enjoy a TV show.  So, I purchased a Traveler Ultra Light Acoustic Electric guitar (lefty, of course).  With a headphone amp, I can practice with the Traveler while also spending time with my wife.  It is helpful that the nut is 1.75″ on both guitars.  My goal is to learn how to fingerpick, and play a song (Stagger/Stack ‘O Lee – Mississippi John Hurt) with my dad.  Of course, I want to learn many songs and many styles of playing the guitar.  Here’s to enjoying the journey!
