Why I'm Here

I started learning in July last year at the age of 67. I bought a guitar from a friend who has played all his life and has been in professional bands in his youth but now plays (really excellently) blues at local open mics. I was told you don’t need lessons, (by my guitar playing friends) but I like to have someone to talk to about it. I think they forget what it was like when they first started. I don’t understand about alternate tuning and chords etc. Well I’m getting to know a little but don’t really understand yet. I go to a local teacher about every three weeks. I only go to ask him things really. I have just watched lessons on youtube etc. downloaded guitar tabs and learnt some. I really want to learn fingerpicking style but now realise that you need to know the basic chords before you can do any of that. Joined up here a week or so ago but not had time to actually do anything on line until today. I sat and did the high school prom riff and got to play it along to the slow playback and then tried the medium a bit. Have to go out now though so will try again tomorrow. I have a Washburn accoustic, a Kimbara classical (which I bought from another friend) and a Vintage new mahogany accoustic guitar which my boyfriend bought me for my birthday. It is lovely and light and is my favourite although I do love the classical too. I have my Washburn tuned to DADFAD as I learnt My Least Favourite Life (Lera Lynn) on that and alternate the F to F’ to play another tune that my teacher suggested for me. I do this so that I don’t have to keep retuning all the time. I find it a bore and time consuming when I could be practicing. I absolutely love playing and would play all day if I had time or my fingers would let me. They are getting tougher but still burn a bit after a while. My idol is Gabriella Quevido who I watch on Youtube. Would love to play like her.
