Why I'm Here

At age 11 I took some guitar lessons but didn’t warm up to the instrument.   I retired in 2010,  and while collecting on a debt a Fender resonator came into play.  I took the guitar and some cash and the Fender became a pleasant distraction for the next few months..  That spring I left for Europe (sold the Fender), and for the next 6 months or so a Takamine became my travel companion.  I played on and off, but my skill set  (or lack thereof) was fairly apparent.  The guitar was, however, a great conversation starter, but when I returned to the states, the guitar got less and less attention.

Then a little over two years ago I got the bug.  In fairly rapid succession I bought a Martin HD 28 v, an Epi ES 175, sold the Takamine and bought a vintage 1978 Takamine 12 string.  Took a few lessons, but found that creating was more important (and pleasing) to me than practicing scales and chords.  Learning pop tunes just wasn’t in my DNA, but the reality is that folks like what’s familiar to them.  Realizing that I needed some structure around my approach to the guitar, I began searching for a course that might fill those needs.  I liked what I had seen on Tony’s video and signed up.  Oh, and it didn’t hurt that his intro video showed him jamming with Tommy Emmanuel (see my photos).

So here I am, hoping to improve my skill set, confidence and comfort in playing to an audience greater than one…
