Just show up every day, and I'll tell you what to play!

Say hi to David W.!
# of years played
Well over 30…
Favorite 3 Bands:
Varies but John Martyn, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin (and now Robert Plant) are always in the mix.
How many guitars do you currently own?
I own four acoustic guitars and one electric.
Why is it important for you to improve at guitar?
It is one of the things that I most enjoy – I find it very relaxing. I like to learn new tunes and getting better at the guitar means that I can play a wider range of new tunes. I like to sing (I was in choirs at school) and I started to play the guitar principally as an accompaniment to singing. When I first started to play I worked through the Beatles Complete song book – you know, the one with the psychedelic pictures and the chord boxes. As the years rolled by I played the guitar more and sang less – that is something that I am also aiming to change!
Why are you an active TAC member?
I know it has been said before but the TAC community is so supportive! It is so good to be able to talk with other people who really like guitars, everyone getting a kick out of achieving their own goals with the instrument and sharing in each other’s personal triumphs. The encouragement is second to none – I have practiced more and practiced more regularly since participating in TAC than I had since first starting to play (I have never taken lessons before). I can see and hear the progress I am making. Your good lessons, Tony, and the community make that happen.
What convinced you to submit your first performance video?
I was very apprehensive about playing in front of anyone. Still am. Seeing the contributions of other members and encouragement from some very kind and very active TAC members (they know who they are!) convinced me to take the plunge. Since then I have submitted dozens of videos and have become more relaxed about doing it. I am hoping that this process will lead me to my 2016 open mic goal!
Tell us the story of your first open mic…
I have yet to write that story! One of my ambitions is to perform at an open mic event and I am planning to reach that goal in 2016. I will let you know when I have done it.
What else would be cool for people to know about you?
I would like to write songs (There! I’ve said it out loud). I have written lyrics but have never fashioned tunes that I have been satisfied with. I am finding the Wednesday solos challenging and enjoyable and I think that they are helping me to unlock some creativity in the friendly environment that is TAC. You never know – maybe 2016 will see me perform one of my own songs at an open mic!
