How I TAC
My routine has found homeostasis at 6-7 days a week. Most sessions are committed to TAC lessons and some are focused skills and songs I want to learn, but all of them incorporate what I have learned in TAC. Thank you, Tony!
Morning chores opens-up the day so it’s usually after lunch and after dinner. There are times (I AM flexible) where I can sneak a practice in while the dryer is running or while food is in the oven. Timers keep me aware, so nothing goes wrong.
I play/practice in the office mostly – that’s where my computer is. When it is not available, I’ll move to my bedroom and sometimes the huge bathroom where I originally was set up for music two years ago. I like to be alone so I don’t disturb anyone and feel free to make mistakes, play quietly or loud, etc…
I hadn’t realized how important consistent routine would be until I committed to consistency. This has helped in organization beyond music practice. One small example is Bible study. The memorizing verses, reading chapters and studying how one book of the bible ties into others has been significantly influenced. Realizing how learning various song styles tends to increase knowledge and helps in any song I am learning. So, overall, organization has become a focus since implementing a consistent guitar routine.
I realize steady progress in many areas and can see weekly if not daily small wins in areas I didn’t have nerve to try before… i.e., hammer-ons and pull-offs and bass runs… and realizing that I love learning new licks…
When I have finished a session, I can easily recognize what I have learned and what I need to practice the next session. Usually, it has to do with incorporating new skills into a familiar song or even a new song.
The one non-guitar item that is a must have in my guitar routine is a chair massager. At my age, sitting too long causes my back to beg for mercy, so the vibration buys me more practice time. 🙂
