  1. Wow. I don’t know if I’m filing correctly, but I think sometimes Tony is not exactly following the tab. I am working on watching Tony and then going to the tab and learning from the tab. Does anybody else do that?

  2. Keep ’em coming, Tony! I spent an hour getting this thing down. It’s a great timing and finger picking technique builder. I was getting frustrated, so I slowed it waay down and played it like a beginner, then gradually gained speed until I could play them as 1/16 notes . The key was getting relaxed while playing.

  3. Oy! Just looking at the tab I can see this is definitely going to be a challenge. I never did get the hang of percussion strums, and don’t particularly like them, even when Tony plays them. But I like blues in general, so I’ll give this “the old college try”, and see if I can half manage some of it. But, small win, I am finally able to bar the mini F!

  4. I love this one, but the dead strums gets me. Marked it as a favorite to come back to. I can pick, slide, and hammer. Strum patterns I have to hear to get it and dead strum is hard to remember. This one tests them both, but I’ll get there

  5. Yikes, I left my Funkified Blues in large chunks and pieces, will need to sew them together later as I progress, Johnny Winters, hey Saw him play Route 66 on the 2007 Clapton Crossroads!

  6. Just wondering if I missed the part where you actually play all the parts together. Also for me if you played it through in the beginning of the lesson that would help inspire me to know what I’m striving for. I’m new here so not too sure if this is the right forum to ask Tony this question.

  7. Been a couple of weeks since I completed the challenge, and I can finally play the funkified blues pretty well, so it sounds like the tab. I think the muting strokes were hard to get to work cleanly with the strumming notes, and the overall rythm was a bit confusing at first, but came together with persistence and practice. I really like the outcome.

  8. I made it though, not real smooth but I feel good about what I did accomplish. This I will keep on my favorite list till I can get it smooth.

  9. Feeling truly funkified! That is a hard blues progression to get smooth and sounding good. Will need to get my funk on a while longer to get this one down. Great lesson Tony.

  10. second day of trying this. Not there yet. I’ll work on it some more. I think this would be a good skill set.

  11. This lesson is very difficult for me, but I always wanted to do the process and will continue. I enjoy the challenges.

  12. Hell! I’ve been practicing this blues progression for weeks now (at weekends, in between the 5 day challenges) and have finally got it! I’m not proficient (may never will be) but it gives me a great feeling of success. Small wins Tony, small wins……

    1. @Archie750 , I hope you put this on the ‘small win’ page. This was much more than a small win thou. Give yourself a big pat on the back. I’ll be lucky to get it down in 2 weeks. Man… it’s a tough one!

  13. I know that this is an “acoustic” challenge but I just had to bust out my tele and blues jr. and go all Steve Cropper on this one….

  14. Was pretty much a refresher. Funkified blues reminded me of Funk 49 by the James gang I played back in the 80’s.

  15. Thanks Team Tony! Another awesome 12 Bar Blues. I started learning this on 6/5, I think it’s going to take me about a week to really nail it, but I will check back in to keep you all updated.
