1.) How many days per week do you play?

My goal is to practice for at least ten minutes for a minimum of five days each week, but I enjoy it so much I end up practicing every day. Usually for considerably longer than ten minutes. 🙂

2.) What time of day do you play?

I have an unusual work schedule: seven consecutive nights followed by seven days off. I work in a hospital.

On my weeks off, I play in the morning after breakfast. I usually end up playing extra in the afternoon and evening.

On my work weeks, I try to fit in ten minutes sometime during my night shift. There’s usually a lull around 4 a.m. when it works out. If I’m too busy to practice during the shift, I play in the afternoon after I wake up and have my coffee.

    3.) Where do you play?

At home, I play in our family room. But since it’s a space used by others for various purposes, I move around the house as needed.

At work, I play in my office. I’m the only one using it at night. I use a little travel guitar because it’s pretty quiet and doesn’t bother other folks who might be napping in adjacent rooms while on call.

4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).

This is a great question, because I had gone about 30 years playing intermittently and basically not making any progress! I would usually play the same three or four things and had really gotten in a deep rut.

I started TAC this January while I was convalescing from surgery. The daily routine has been tremendous. Here are things I’ve noticed:

    a. Even if I’m tired or unfocused, having a TAC daily exercise gives me something to work on without having to make a decision about what to play! Then once I’ve done the exercise, I’m inspired to go on and learn something else.

    b. In the last three months, I’ve grown leaps and bounds as a player! I’m trying new techniques and really branching out to different styles and genres of music.

    c. Now that I’m in the habit, I am super excited to play each day!

5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?

I know this is a common one, but for me it’s definitely coffee! And sometimes a homebrew in the evening if I’m not heading in to work. 🙂
