  • How I TAC guerra6007

I’m shooting for seven days a week of practice. I’m retired and really enjoy playing guitar so that’s not difficult unless we’re traveling. If we travel by car, I’ll take a guitar. Haven’t traveled by plane since I joined, but might need a travel guitar when I do. Checked my Martin onto a plane years ago and the hard shell case took a real beating. Can you carry on a travel guitar and stow it overhead?

Usually play mid afternoon. Try to get any chores out of the way in the morning, along with my every other day workout, so pm just works better.

Play in the guitar corner of our finished basement, looking out the windows into our little fenced garden with bird feeders. Got a comfy armless guitar chair, a wooden tv tray, a couple of music stands, and house plants.

Before I joined TAC, my guitar playing was cyclical, on and off again continuosly. My calluses are functioning better than ever now with regular playing. If I play for more than a couple of hours, I might feel a little discomfort. I used to spend too much time resurrecting songs I learned years ago and now they mostly seem ready to go on short notice. Got a set up done on my twelve string after reading posts by other TAC members who found it beneficial, and it made for a big improvement in playability of that guitar. Likewise, I saw on the VOM’s how some mikes and other sound gear can improve your sound, so bought an inexpensive interface, plugged in some 70’s era mikes I had, and am enjoying a better sound quality for sending out on the internet and also for periodically reviewing my own sound recordings , as a study tool.

My essential non-guitar practice item is my rack harmonica. If I’m caught up on lessons and feel like playing, I tune the guitar, pick a song from my repertoire that has room for a harmonica, and start jamming. It has been a joy for me, especially during these pandemic times in the last year.

A twelve string? That’s neat. Do you just put pressure on two strings at a time instead of one string to play it?

Ideally, yes. Twin strings are a little easier on my callouses, but a challenge to keep both ringing when they’re picked or strummed. Plus it’s easy to miss the light string in the pair on an upstroke. Sounds pretty to me at all times.

Got a lot more hours in on my six string but playing more twelve since Covid hit 2020 March.
