.) How many days per week do you play? My goal is to practice/play my guitar 5 times/week. Sometimes it’s a shorter session where I look at the daily challenge and try to complete it. Other times, it’s a longer session and I go back over some of the lessons I have marked as favorites to refresh and reinforce the skills that I’ve learned. Sometimes I just play from a collection of songs I love that I’ve pulled together — it’s quite a mix from John Mayer, the Beatles, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Sinatra and a few others. Each song has its unique challenges and there are always chords that are unfamiliar to me but I’m getting to the point where I can play several of these songs through. That’s both fun and rewarding.

.) What time of day do you play? My typical time for practice is late afternoon or before I cook dinner.

.) Where do you play? I play in our multi-function spare room in our condo. It’s a guest room, an exercise room, a mini-office, and my guitar practice space. It’s private when I need privacy. Sometimes I practice at the kitchen counter. It seems my wife likes to listen to my practice sometimes even if things go twangy often.

.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways). Before renewing my commitment to practicing and playing 5x/week, my routine is best described as intermittent dabbling punctuated by frustration and limited improvement. Now with my routine I can say that: 1) I’m improving my skills; 2) I’m learning more about music theory and technique; and 3) I’m having more fun. I look forward to playing more than before.

.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine? I’ve got to have the right chair or stool and a footrest.
