How this Canuck TACs
I’m 57 years old and have owned a guitar for over 40 years now. I started off very excited in my teens to learning chords, but unfortunately other priorities got in the way of my guitar learning path. Years later, I was excited that the internet had so much to offer to learn to play, but like Tony said in his intro, there’s actually too much available. Where do I start? What do I play first, next? It’s paralysis by analysis to learn guitar without a routine and coaching.
I joined TAC in Dec 2020 based on Tony’s pitch that my guitar routine needed to be more like fun; something to look forward to do everyday. I now play at least five days a week; the daily challenges have helped to achieve this. I created my routine by observing when my wife least wanted to see me – when the Young and Restless was on. Great time to go to my home office room, close the door, and hit the daily lesson. My room gives me the solitude I need to make mistakes without worry of annoying anyone. Prior to TAC I would feel guilty about spending time on my own. TAC has taught me to find the time when it works best for all. My one non guitar item I always have on hand? My excel spreadsheet of chords. I create a visual of new chords in a spreadsheet as I learn them in the lessons, especially when Tony indicates there are other chord shapes that can be used as alternates. Wow, I never realized that alternatives existed! If I’m having a difficult time with something, ie barre chords, there’s another way to replicate the sound. Awesome!
The routine aspect of learning is powerful. I’ver started to listen to French learning CD’s on my drive to work now – another goal I had years ago and lost interest. Thanks Tony for inspiring me to create my learning routines!
