Does anyone own a carbon fiber travel guitar or played one? My son lives in Papua New Guinea. The weather has high humidity. He will be living in a remote location and there are lots of termites. A wood guitar would just get ruined. He doesn’t have a lot of money and would need to keep it under $500.00.

Sorry no but I can see where you’re coming from. Trouble is from the reasearch I’ve done online carbon fibre guitars tend to be more expensive than wood ones so he may struggle at that proce bracket. Worth contacting a few of the online guitar shops for advice. Alamo Music for example (https://www.alamomusic.com/) have a great YouTube channel with lots of advice on guitars and could give some guidance but there are any number out there. Best of luck – Darren

Yeah I’ve looked a bit too and they are more expensive. I thought maybe he could find a used one. It looks like contacting a shop for advice is the way to go. Thanks

I would buy a cheap guitar because plywood is less affected than a solid wood guitar. Buy a yahama fg800 and even that should last a few years and get your $200 out if it.

I suggested that he get an all plywood guitar because of the weather conditions. He said the termites like to eat plywood. He’s in a town right now and someone he knows has guitar that’s been there a few years and has termite damage. I know they are going to eat any wood so I agree if he gets a wood one he should go cheap. He really needs a travel size though. Thanks for the feedback.

I don’t own one of these but Tony did review the KLOS Carbon Fiber guitar. I’ll share the link below. Carbon Fiber guitars are expensive and much like regular wood guitars the prices continue to increase with gaining popularity. There are a few premier makers out there like Emerald and McPherson, but there are other brands that are lesser expensive like RainSong, Composite Acoustic and KLOS (there are a few others). They’re still not as cheap as all laminate guitars, but they may be what your son is looking for.
