It sounds like what you have is a “gig bag” and not a case. Definitely NOT plane worthy. Either get a hard case and take it on board or, as suggested, you can rent a guitar while you’re in Phoenix. Try doing a yelp search on rental guitars or instrument rentals and use the zip code where you’ll be staying. There’s a few stores in that area that do rentals so you should be fine.
