how I chose a guitar vs a real professional
I am an admirer of David Hamburger ,a very fine blues player. When he was buying his 1956 00-18 Martin he did not go for looks. He did not go for style. He played many guitars for hours in his local shop and came back again to sample them. The result is his kind of beat up but beautiful sounding old Martin with a comfortable shape and a scale length that fits his style of playing. And man does it sound good.! He has been featured by Tony and is well worth seeing especially if you are a fingerpicker. I, on the other have always been a dabbler until about 4 months ago. I chose my guitars by “oh that looks good”. Wow look at that. But finally I got my act kind of together and ordered, sight unseen a Martin hd 28. Since I had no real idea of how it would sound except for reviews on youtube I just took a chance.I was lucky in that it sounds great. The only thing I needed were strings that would compliment it which I think Ive finally found (santa Cruz low tension). The win? well, both David and i won. He won by doing due diligence and playing and playing until he found the individual best guitar for him.I won because instead of just choosing a pretty face, I did my research for months and ended up with my final guitar of great quality too. If you can ,do it the way David did. But, Im a lazy bum so I did it my way
