  • One Year TACiversary!

Posted by Carnelia on December 6, 2022 at 2:46 pm

One year done! My goal for the year was to start up again after a long absence from the guitar, and just get the basics down: re-build barre chord strength, re-learn a lot of chords, get a routine established, start up my faith community singing group again. A secondary more long term goal was to “up my game” in folk/blues, beyond just playing chords and fingerpicking/strumming. I met both goals and am a better player than I ever was before, thanks to TAC. Managed to play almost every day, especially the last six months. Know what a pentatonic scale is and can play it! Can play with a pick now, although that still needs a lot of work! Goal for 2023: Fretboard Wizard, and just getting really comfortable with the basics of theory I need to play with others. And keep up the daily practice and strengthening skills! Looking forward to another TAC year!

Thanks! Well I give credit to Tony and his journal for the goal setting and keeping. He really has the motivation thing down: 10 minutes a day, small wins, and that journal so you can see how you’re doing. And he’s right, just do it every day consistently, and you can’t help but learn and improve. Really glad to have been in the TAC family for a year!

Congrats on your milestone! Not that I need any convincing about TAC, but it’s inspiring to hear from more veteran members how much Tony’s system has helped them progress in their guitar journey.

Sounds like you are well ahead of me on that journey, but I will attest to the “awesomeness” of Fretboard Wizard. I hesitated about signing up for it, but now I’m mighty glad I did. Tony has a way of explaining the music theory stuff that makes it so much less intimidating.

Hopefully your example will also inspire me to be better at setting clear goals, and not be all over the map trying to master it all, right now😄

Thanks GerryB56! I am typically an all-over-the-map person so I can relate. But I was sold on Tony’s “consistency is the most important” theme – makes sense to me, and I’m getting too far along (read: old ;-)) to just drop it yet again! I tried using the whole journal the first half of the year, but over time I’ve wound up just using the “Prepare and Reflect” page. I print out three copies on paper (for the next three months), fill in the dates, and put in a big goal and Prepare-Plan smaller goals for the upcoming month. Then every day when I practice, I check off the date. It has really helped me stay on track. Good luck on your journey!
