Opening new “portals” of guitar playing
Until not very long ago, I thought I’d only ever want to strum chords and sing along, campfire style, with maybe a few timely embellishments here and there. But Tony’s Fretboard Wizard sparked a desire to go much further, and I’m discovering with the help of other resources that maybe, just maybe, I can get the hang of lead and solo playing, too! Latest “rabbit hole” is learning triads, and all the exciting possibilities they open up for us. Hardest part of all this is trying to keep some focus – I just want to absorb everything instantly😆 But best of all, I’m getting much better at concentrating on the joy of new discoveries, instead of the frustrations of not yet being the player I one day hope to become.
Definitely a big win – one I’m sure many of you fellow geeks have already reached!

That’s great! What I have found is, that if I enjoy it, and keep going, day by day; it may not seem like much is happening; but the progress becomes very real when looking back a couple months. Then, voila, I am able to do something I wasn’t before. Making progress a foot at a time may not seem like much when looking at my goal 100 yards away. In a year though, I have surpassed my goal by 65 feet. TAC gave me the tools to keep at it, and now I play what seemed beyond me. Still a long way to go; but…….I am going.

You’re so right about that “slow but steady wins the race” mantra! Day to day, or even at the end of any given week, sometimes it’s hard to recognize any real progress, but after 7 months in TAC I have definitely made huge strides. Lately I’ve been less inspired by the daily challenges, but Tony’s whole approach that emphasizes showing up every day and looking for the positives, plus his encouragement and the great feedback from fellow TACers, has been such a game changer for me.

I agree totally. I thought soloing was somehow a holy grail that was not something ‘beginners’ should even contemplate but I’m starting to get a feel for pitch bend (easier on electric!), hammer ons, pull offs and slides now. Slow but melodic is my mantra. Keep on rockin’ my friend. 🤟😎🎸

Thanks, Moonhare! I like that “slow but melodic” mantra – just what I want to work towards. Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and those old blues masters are the ones that really inspire me. Not that some of those rock shredder types aren’t darn cool to watch, but I’m much more of a ballad style guy for sure!

Gerry—- Your line– “I just want to absorb everything instantly😆” is exactly the way I’m feeling these days!
I’ve lately been working my way thru FBW (again- 2nd time thru), and also going thru the original version of FBW, along with my “No Bull” books.
And……. I’m…….. buried.
But– it’s a “good problem” to have, right? Better than being bored with it……………
There is SOOOOO much “new stuff” in my head- (there’s plenty of room– there’s a lot of vacant land in there😉)- I just don’t really have ANY kind of handle on how to process it all in a logical order.
I feel like the ant in the old “how does an ant eat an elephant” joke…..
