Stringing everything together
Posted by David G on January 10, 2023 at 8:52 pmHey gang. My daughter and I are having a blast learning all of these new moves and skills, but I’d like some tips from y’all as to how to put everything together to form actual whole songs.

First, I’m only on week two, so take my experience for what it’s worth.
At this stage I’ve been enjoying playing songs with a backing track.
What I mean:
I find a song with cords I know or want to stretch myself with (something like Ed Sheeran’s “Sing” – Em, Am)
I find either the original or some other video to play along with. (sometimes this requires a capo to find the right key)
I start by strumming only on the major beats (usually 1, or 1&3) to find the chord changes
Then I add a simple strumming pattern
This way I don’t have to know the whole song to be able to play a whole song.
And I can keep adding as I get better.

@dwgaudetgmail-com Have you done any of the skills levels yet? I would recommend the ‘5Day Guitar Routine Challenge’. It will explain the challenges and how to use them to enhance your guitar journey. @mcarlson_sb is right there is also http:tacsongs.com Lots of stuff to start you on your way. Good luck and have fun.

TAC is awesome for improving your finger dexterity and technique. For learning songs one of the best sites I know is Songnotes.net – he takes you step by step through learning the chords, strumming patterns etc for beginner to advanced players. Annual memberships are very affordable and gets you access to extra material.
