My Routine o the Week
Just started a few days ago and spending time on the forums.
1.) How many days per week do you play?
Since I started 3.5 years ago, I have played 7 days a week, except….
When I travel, which we do 3-4 times a year for from 1-4 weeks, I don’t take my guitar.
The first time, I missed playing a bit, but it was early days. When I got back, I got back into my routine quickly with only a small lag in progress.
But the second trip, things changed. I began missing it a great deal, so I spent time reading books about guitars, playing, practice, whatever I could grab on Kindle. By the time I got home, I was chomping at the bit and hit the ground running. I felt like I had actually improved while gone. So, since then, I have maintained that routine.
But I do have a travel guitar and keep thinking about it.
2.) What time of day do you play?
I’m up around 4:30 every day, and begin my first session by around 5:15. Depending on how I am feeling physically, I play in 5-20m sessions with 5-20m breaks. This will usually add up to between 1 and 3 hours a day.
3.) Where do you play?
In my office upstairs, I have a table that is for guitar. A dedicated laptop and screen is there, my guitars are hanging on the wall within reach, and my guitar stand is just at my left hand.
4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).
Before TAC, I had a set routine every day, but that routine changed almost weekly. Not saying that won’t happen now, but I have placed TAC as the first slot after my warmup and I think it’s a good fit there.
5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?
Coffee for me also. People think it’s strange, but I own two Keurigs. One in the kitchen like everyone else, and one up in my office/studio. Guess which one gets used the most.
