New to Guitar and thats why I am here. I am i the process of going through 30 days to play. I am starting to get more comfortable with the Boogie Blues not perfect but getting there. I wet on to try and work on the G chord and I am really struggling as I see my fingers are hitting two strings. I am thinking my finger tips are too soft still to accomplish the G chord. Is there another practice or something I can do to get my finger tougher so I do not have to press down so hard to hold the note. As it was mentioned you can push your finger nails in the tip of your fingers to toughen them up. I feel I am stuck here until I can get my fingers tips to callus up. Suggestions?

    appreciate your time

Just stick with it. Before long you’ll have crazy callouses. I think everyone has gone through what you’re experiencing.

One doesn’t have to press that hard to put the string against the fret. That is why I like frets. (Violins don’t have them). You might review YouTube videos on finger positioning. The thumb is an anchor on the back and with the guitar neck higher and not leaning over the body, one’s wrist can be straighter. I’ve seen people use a pencil to create distance between the side of the neck and the hand to get an idea of the space around which to curl your fingers got that that G,C, or D chords. I’ve also seen a practice technique where one doesn’t really press with their thumb just to experience how little pressure is needed to put the string against the fret. Mostly don’t worry. You’ll get there. It’s not about the calluses. It about flexibility and muscle memory.
