    Just going through the strumming lesson in 30 days to play…its not clear to me if the intent is to hit each string on the up strum or only the high E, appreciate insights

    The common suggestion for up-strums is to hit the bottom 3-4 strings. It’s not exact but should be more than 1 and less than 6. The tab will typically show four strings.

    Our brains are amazing (when they are working). They will hear and fill in the [implied] notes that please them. So you don’t have to strum all the strings for a listener to enjoy the sound. Whatever strings you hit will be sufficient. The ear will fill in the rest. That’s some of the joy of it and the rhythm that the upstroke brings.
