  • When to move on

Posted by BrianFromCanada on March 17, 2024 at 10:45 am

One thing not really spoken about in the lessons. I have been playing campfire guitar for over 40 years so somewhat familiar with basic chording and rhythm. I started on the 30 day beginning and trying the blues boogey. Finding it challenging since I have not really done any soloing. Question is, how good with it do I need to get to move on? This could take me weeks of practice to get the boogey down at proper speed. Should I wait or just add that to my daily practice and move on?

10 minutes is what Tony says. It’s not about mastering the piece.. it about the exposure and just showing up. I finished the 30 day this weekend and when I look back at where I started I am amazed at how much I have progressed. Not perfect in anything, but I am having fun!

Have to agree with JohnWP. I’ve been doing this for the last 20 weeks and some lessons are easier to understand than other. I was getting bogged down in trying to be perfect and found that’s a bad trap to fall into. Hang in there with the forum. There’s a lot of nice people out there willing to help.

Very Timely! I just told myself an hour ago, “OK Steve, time to move on!” As a Greenhorn still “Wet behind the Ears” beginner at 67, I spent seven weeks in the 30 days to play, then 2 weeks on the 5-day Routine before reluctantly hitting the “completed” box. I go back to the Shuffle, Baseline, Boogie, and Scales for a warm up every time I sit down. I’m picking up the speed and accuracy as the days go by. I have this guitar on my lap every day for at least a couple hours, being retired and all. Tony is a good motivator.

I just spent the last week on my 1st daily challenge which, in my mind, should have been a bit further down the road for me. I give each day a good effort, a pat on my back, and a smile for the progress I’ve made. I am amazed and wish I had been playing for 40 years.

It seems most responses you read here say “Move On, you can come back later.” I’m learning to take that advice. I picked up a couple song books, hopefully by the fall I’ll be sitting round the campfire testing the vocals!
