  • Floundering around on weekends

Posted by Mrfredsporty on June 8, 2024 at 3:42 am

I find that on weekends I’m not very structured. I wish there was a tac weekend lesson.so I normally will tune up, practice pentatonic scales a little, work on a new song a little, play my old songs a little, put my guitar down and wait for Mondays challenge. Are there any YouTube things that folks recommend. Yes, I realize that I sound like a little 80 year old kid who needs to be led by the hand. Well…I am!

You could try Skills Course reviews. I like the weekend’s openness. That’s where I stay focused on my quarterly goals. And I also review and try to refresh songs I want to keep on my back pocket list. One of my goals is to structure that review process. Your comment reminded me of that so thanks. Anyway, I like the flexibility and chance to stop and smell the roses on my guitar journey

I use the weekends to “freestyle” or play without structure. I typically play more on the weekends just having fun.

@Mrfredsporty, I tend to use my weekends to just play. I try to incorporate some of the TAC info during my playing. For example, played some Wagon Wheel riffs this weekend in between playing songs. Sometimes you just gotta play and not worry about practice. This is why we do practice.

I have a 7-day practice routine so I can keep track of what to work on each day, otherwise if I rely on my memory I find myself either over practicing something, or neglecting to practice something.

So during the week it is the TAC challenge, followed by 2 of the other essential guitar skills, notes, scales, chords, arpeggios, picking, aural, & rhythm. And then end the practice each day with 2 or 3 new songs I’m trying to learn. I mix them up each day. So I might only practice notes 3 times a week and rhythm 4 times.

Sundays are devoted to songs and I work through my repertoire, trying to play and sing each song from memory (I struggle with this).
