  • Belushi Blues counting question.

Can someone explain the counting Tony does on measures 9 and 10? Shouldn’t it be “trip” “A” “let”, “trip a let” etc. rather than 1 and 2 and?? His counting makes no sense for the way the music is written. Advise please, anyone??

    Hi Michael,

The answer is yes trip-a-let the way it is written. You could just play 2 notes per beat as log as you keep the swing beat that Tony talked about in the lesson where the “a” in triplet is implied not played. I played around with playing the first 6 measures playing all 3 notes in the triplet. It’s fun to play around.

oh man did I struggle with this @PickinmyPocket , That swing feel can be diagrammed and explained but it was easier for me to mess around with and get it by feel. Clear your mind of all thoughts and focus on that feel. Can you hum the beat. Even finger tapping on a table becomes a useful endeavor. Many of my favorite songs use this triplet variation to get the cool sound I love. As frustrating as it it…it is worth working through.

I agree, I find it easiest to just recite the beat in my head before I start playing. It’s definitely not a ONE – AND -TWO
