Sorry, but you are about to take a plunge. (Actually, it is a good plunge). You are ready to dip into the Daily Challenge. (Note the word “Challenge” is in the title… it’s not an ambush). The Daily Challenge leads you into a process of playing regularly (at least 10 minutes). The frustrating things for many being introduced to the process is that you will likely not master the area (the five areas are technique, licks, improv, chord progression, and chord transition) each time you are exposed to it. The challenges do come around again in one form or another. I’ve been doing this for over 2,000 sessions and there are many daily challenges I have not mastered. But I’m a lot better player than I was when I started, I am having more and more fun on my guitar journey as I realize there is joy in the doing as much as the mastering. Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly at first. The two major obstacles to finding that joy are: 1) Understanding you will never get there and 2) Comparison thinking. Both are hard for my personality type. The first obstacle stems from a desire to tie off the knot and move on. The second stems from the idea that a competition exists between Tommy Emmanual and me or even worse… me tomorrow and me today. In both cases, Tommy and me tomorrow win. Once I figured out that Tommy or me tomorrow doesn’t care how I play and relax, I understand I am no longer over my head. There is no water in which to drown.
OK. This is too long, and I will let you get on to your daily rat killing. Thanks for asking the question. Others may have better advice.
