Hi – I have been in the TAC program for almost 30 days. This is my first vid ever. This is hard to post because I am not good at barre chords. However, I do not want to skip them. I want to learn how to transition to barres and I want my fingers to get stronger while doing so. So… being pretty vulnerable here. I did have fun trying. I am sure it will get better the next time it comes around… Hopeful it will anyway!

That was fine! You must have played some guitar before. Your positions on the chords, and clarity were good. Your speed will improve. Barre chords are a pain for us all at one time or another. At 30 days in the program I wouldn’t even have attempted what you did. Way to go.

      Thank you for that 🙂

I have been trying to play on and off for several years (about 16 years or so) but have never been able to play barre chords and stopped trying. Now, at least I am getting some sound out of them. I always just strummed and tried to do some Travis picking but never got very far with that. So.. def not new to playing but just never got past the basics. Also, I played that so many times over the last few days I was dreaming about it lol…

Most awesome rendition! The barre chords rang out much cleaner than I’ve been able to master!

      Thank you kindly….

I am going to be honest, this is the first guitar that I have ever been able to get a barre chord to half way play! One thing I never knew anything about is the “action”. On all of my other guitars, which are much cheaper, the action was way to high and the strings too thick/big (I don’t know terminology well). This guitar the action is lower and the strings are lighter… makes it much easier to play.

Yeah, it was clear from watch 5 seconds of this video that you didn’t start playing guitar 30 days ago! You are doing great with this challenge, much better that I and I am on my second run through. I’ve been playing guitar for 10 months, 7 of them in the TAC program. You are also standing while playing which at least for me is much harder because I used to plugging along while sitting.

Looking forward to seeing more videos from you, very nicely done!

Honestly, I really appreciate your comment. I did start playing/learning/noodling several years ago. However, had not picked up a guitar in about 3 years until December (right before I joined TAC). I definitely had the very basics – like basic chords and decent strumming technique and have tried to do some finger picking stuff in the past. I just never excelled – never able to play barre chords, never understood how to incorporate licks and certain finger picking patterns… that type of thing. So, I became frustrated and felt like I wasn’t improving. I gave up… :/

Because I have been playing on and off for so long, I feel like I should be way ahead of where I am. I actually put the instrument down because I thought maybe I just wasn’t cut out to be a player. That is the whole reason I started TAC – because I needed direction. I need a different way to learn this stuff. This is my last HOORAH, so to speak. LOL…

I just love music and I love guitar. It makes me happy. It makes my heart pitter patter… 🙂

      Anyway, thanks!

(Also, I am sitting… lol The camera was just too close to see that.)

I guess its onward and upward from here…

LoL! It really looks like you’re standing! Don’t worry about where you are at, you will grow naturally in the TAC program.

P.S.: Oh and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Andy Summers says he’s never played a barre chord:
