Structure of Weekly Challenges
Posted by Daniel M on February 2, 2025 at 1:23 pmHi Guitar Fans!
I am trying to understand the TAC system “longitudinally” (over longer periods of time, not just week to week). If anyone could explain how the “weekly challenge” relates to one’s skill set and skill level and what the developmental arc is or whether there is one, it would be appreciated. I have not been able to find any link to actual teachers so far, just members comments.

Each week is standalone and is typically teaching a specific skill or technique. The next week is generally a completely different skill/technique. The challenges repeat over a long period 9-12 months. The philosophy is that you are being exposed to these bite sized techniques over time. The first time through you might only be able to the first measure or 2. The next time the technique comes around you will get a little further and eventually you will get through the entire exercise.
Over time all of these little incremental improvements will build up and you will become a good guitar player.

Thanks ! That seemed to be the case. Are the entire year’s worth of Weekly challenges available for review online in a sort of library of challenges?

Moose408 is correct. This is kind of a progressive program where elements are repeated. As we go along, it is easy to track your performance as you can compare yourself to prior challenges. A lot of the challenges repeat, however there are new challenges introduced. The better I get, the more I get out of TAC. I can see why so many experienced players still hang out here.

It’s a very good question that I think every one who starts TAC has, but not everyone asks. It will take some time for you to trust the process, but once you do your growth will be steady and come at quite a surprising pace because you can suddenly do things that you didn’t even know you could!

I am so glad the question was asked. I have felt like I was falling behind because I was trying to master each day as well as each week. I found myself very frustrated with my progress/ability. I literally did not finish all of the January challenges but I spent time everyday. I am still a little confused on how to move forward.

Thanks one and all for your insights.. Hey, Here’s a new question.. What is the principal of the arpeggiated chord? Ie, the D chord arpeggio Tony gave us contains the standard three tones of D major chord, (D, F#, A) plus C. Does anyone see a pattern which tracks across the 4th (C chord) and the 5th (D chord) when we solo in the key of G.? I am assuming that it’s OK to jam all 7 tones in the G major scale when the G chord is being sounded, but am interested in the principal of arpeggio when the backing track is playing the 4th, 5th, and natural minor (Em).

I am confused how to find the challenges. They are not accessible after 45 days. Is there a library to access them?
