  • So you want to be a Goalie – Week 12 for me

Posted by Ang on November 8, 2025 at 5:20 am

I’ve attached a screenshot of the lesson for Friday from ‘So you want to be a Goalie’ Week 12 for me. Where would we use this? Is there a particular song with this technique? It would be fun to put it to work in a song. What song do you use this in? Thank you …

This is the TAB for the video of Friday’s challenge. It’s not a whole song, it’s an exercise containing elements you might want to use in a different song. This whole week hasn’t been about a particular song, but about developing your skill as a guitar player in the areas of finger picking and slides. It’s actually among my favorite weeks in the calendar. So many nuggets!

This is true about any week really, while sometimes based on songs we may be familiar with, TAC is always pushing the skills envelope and not teaching a particular song because you can use what you learn to arrange other songs with the embellishments taught here.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I understand that this is a tab for the lesson and that Tony is teaching us how to play the tab properly. What I’m asking is what songs do we, his students, put them to use in. I can’t think of any off hand and I wondered where others, in this program with more experience than I have, play these embellishments.

Good question! I’m a newbie to music myself and have to defer to more seasoned musicians to supply some examples here.

So, in my opinion, this is TAC. TAC isn’t for learning songs per se, it is for teaching you how to play guitar, and incorporate what you are learning in ANY song. This is what sets this system apart from other sites. There are literally thousands of videos on the web to learn a particular song. TAC provides the foundational skills to actually play those songs.

@Skyman911 , @Ang is asking if you know any songs that you could apply these “embellishments” to. I can’t name a particular song where these chords specifically could be inserted, but I’m sure a similar arrangement could work as one or more verses of your favorite 12 bar blues song.

@petelager yes, thank you! If I do happen upon a song that I can practice to I’ll let you all know. This week is easy, it’s wonderful tonight.

@petelanger, I apologize if my reply was confusing. I was being a generalist when talking about TAC, and not the particular “Glove save and Beaut”. However regarding this tune, I just played it on a blues backing track, and was a lot of fun. I also played it along with You Ain’t going nowhere by the Byrds. I just found the beat, and started playing. The point I’m trying to make is, you can incorporate most of what we are learning into other songs. You can embellish and add a pull off, or hammer on, or slide, or whatever into most any song. Let go and let yourself be creative. The ONE thing I have learned on my journey is, there are many ways to play a song. Simple, complex, slow, fast, etc.. Make it your own.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time. Yes I know that TAC is for teaching techniques and skill segments. I’m just wondering what songs experienced guitarists here in TAC are fitting these beautiful embellishments to.

It would likely be a slow blues song. I tried and made The Thrill is Gone by BB King work with it for example. You might google Slow Blues Songs or Slow 12 Bar Blues Songs and see if one might work for you. Hope that helps. (You can also make up a song of your own. Like I made up. “My flag pole is broken baby. Wind blew it right in the street. (Repeat)

Mama says I got to get out my tools and fix back it straight and neat.” [Inspired by actual recent event]
