  • Playing through an acoustic amp

Posted by jorgemac on November 22, 2025 at 2:36 pm

I’ve started spending each guitar day by devoting some time to learning to play through an amp. 1st you have to learn how to tune in treble, bass, mid treble and all of the other offering of the amp. I have a couple of acoustic guitar amps, a Yamaha THR30 and an AER 60, so I have good amps to try and learn through. The problems are that every little error is heard. That is why I decided to spend some time with this and hope to learn how to minimize all of my playing errors. It is a work in progress, just like using the metronome to help learn good timing habits. Any thoughts?

I just ordered the Positive Grid Spark Mini and the Go “smart” amps. I like the idea of the ultra portable Go amp but I want to compare the sounds. I’m hoping these little amps will make it easier and more fun to play with backing tracks (it supposedly will even listen to you and make a backing track).

That is what I like about the Yamaha, very portable and with a fairly long charged life. Good tone for something that can sit on a desktop. Lots of bells and whistles too.

Hey KW, what brand amp did you buy. I’m always up for new gadgets.
