Fingernails and muting strings
Hi all,
I’m beginning to notice an issue, even though this is my fifth time through Old Man.
When I go to do the hammer-ons in the lick challenge, I find I am muting several strings including the one I’m fretting! Someone suggested to another query to not press too hard, but if I don’t the string mutes, and I am right behind the fret at the sweet spot. Now, I keep my fretting hand nails very short, almost to the point of discomfort, and I have decent calluses, but if I arch my hand enough to minimize muting other strings, my nail hits the fret board and can’t go any closer.
Which brings me to a related issue, when I fret with my ring or middle fingers, the fleshy part of the back of the end joint bulges out enough to mute the string behind it. Sometimes I can arch way up to minimize that, but not always depending on the chord’s configuration.
Does anyone have any tips or maybe you tape up your fingers or what have you come up with to address this type of issue?
Thanks!
