  • A bit confused…

Posted by CamiB on December 26, 2025 at 3:26 pm

I am on day 7 (at the end of week 1) of the 30 Days To Play Guitar Challenge. I have stuck with playing thge Blues. Is this what I am supposed to be doing?

I am a little shakey with the Boogie. That said, I am ready to move on to week 2: Chords. Is it advisable to move ahead or should I continue to play whatever is set for the particular week?

Thank you, in advance, for your replies.

@CamiB – Continue playing through, definitely want to keep in moving! There is no need to “master” or “perfect” anything. Try your best and mark complete. You can always come back and repeat later.

This principle of doing the best you can will always apply in TAC. After you move on to Daily Challenges you will run into challenges that are beyond your ability. But don’t worry, these things are taught over and over again. You just try to do whatever portion of it you can. It might only be one measure or even just part of a measure. There was a time when the challenge was so difficult all I could accomplish was the rhythm, so I rested my fretting hand and just did the rhythm part with my strumming hand. The next time it came around I was able to hold down a chord while doing it and then additional chords.

You show up and try your best for at least 10 minutes then mark it complete.

After that if you still have time and want to continue, you can go at it for a bit longer. But then you should take a break, play something else and then put the guitar down. You can come back later or another day.

The skills are repeated over and over, there is no beginning of TAC and no end. Each daily challenge is a self contained lesson and is performed by players at all levels from novice to expert. A novice approaches the challenge differently and focuses on different aspects but everybody gains something.

I understand this question and confusion. I thought it would be a video a day. But for week 1, there are some intro videos I watched in one sitting, and then only 3 videos. Do I watch and practice for week 1 and then on day 8 begin week 2? Do I balance the amount of videos through the week with 10 min of practice on days there are no more videos. <div>

I wish I was sure my question is clear. Is there meant to be o e video a day for 7 days of each week?

There’s not a video every day, but you can use the “days off” to work on what you learned in the videos. I had previously played some guitar, so I went through the 30 day Challenge in about 2 weeks. I based that on a few things. 1. Letting my fingers toughen up , 2. Refining some technique to try to get rid of bad habits, and 3. Keeping it interesting. I think the 30 day challenge is perfect for new guitar players, but for those of us getting back into it, I found I needed to skip ahead to stay motivated. I think you have to discover your own pace. If you find one of the weeks pretty easy, then start the next week’s lesson. Chords and transitions will always be the most challenging, I think, so that is something you will have to continually work on, even as you progress to the next lessons.

The first two weeks were pretty easy for me. The strumming is very difficult. I didn’t do much on day 4 of the strumming week because the website was frozen and I really needed some help. I am on day 5 now…still strumming. I think I will move ahead to the solo week and revisit the strumming week later (it is not going well at all).

I’ve incorporated a metronome. It is helpful with chord changes, but not with the strumming. I guess I will figure it out later.

I was a very inexperienced on guitar, had been playing sporadically for about 3 months, I did the 30 days in just under 20 days.
