My first benchmark : Old Man
I started with TAC November 3rd. I’m not a complete beginner. I got rid of 3 of my 5 guitars because of downsizing houses and I figured either I play the other 2 or get rid of them too. So I stumbled across TAC and was impressed by Tony’s “don’t worry just play attitude” and I took a leap of faith. I am retired and I am able to find 10 to 30 minutes almost every day to forge along. So that’s a real plus.
I did the 30 day challenge in 10 days due to my previous knowledge and guitar experience. I did the 5 day challenge and then some other challenges.
I feel that I have made some progress but I feel over my head with things like “rock and roll hoochie koo”.I click on that “completed” button but I get the feeling like I’m trying to hammer a nail by just hitting it once. I want to finish the lesson saying that I got it, or almost got it, but that’s seldom the case. Progress is slow and sometimes not linear.
As for Old Man, I enjoyed playing the chord progressions. That’s my strong point. My weak point are the scales, which I seem to learn fast and forget just as fast. Improvising was a very curious thing for me. I did the improvisation and I understand when Tony says it’s important. You have to keep in time (not easy) , play and listen at the same time. It’ hard but I see the importance of doing it.
I’m not up to doing a recording because I wouldn’t want to listen to it. (Yes, I’m that bad) I’ll just write down how each day session in the benchmark week went and keeping on plugging ahead.
