    Hello fellow TAC troopers!

I just wanted to post because I NEVER do and I am pretty darn stoked about this experience! I am 67 yr old male, my first guitar lesson, I was 12 yrs old. I have had this yearning for so long, I ALMOST gave up. I am in my 3rd wk of 30 Days and have progressed more in 3 wks than the previous 50+ yrs. When I began 3 wks ago, I was no more proficient than I was at 12-13 yrs old. I have ALWAYS owned a guitar, often going months on end never touching it. Looking back on it now, I think patience and expectations were my downfall, both my own! Needless to say, my patience has mellowed with age. The expectations are softened by Tony’s approach and constant reminder to not stress about it and have FUN doing this! It is supposed to be that!

So…power chords, strumming, open chords, tabs, all things I now understand. Not just abstract concepts. I now look forward to getting home to pick up my NEW guitar. Its the 2nd thing I think about when I awake…coffee #1. Looking forward to the rest of TAC.

What a great experience to move from a wanna be dappled to a deliberate progressing player. Thanks for sharing your joy. Many of us have experienced similar feelings with out TAC journey. Have a great 2026.

@jjaylandjaol-com welcome to TAC. Your post really resonates with me because I felt the same when I joined at age 65. It wasn’t my very first guitar lesson, that happened 4 months earlier but I was amazed at how well things were moving along during the first 30 days. I was actually “playing guitar”. Don’t get me wrong I’m still a Newb but since being in the TAC program I never doubted that I could become the kind of player I desire to. Ok, I know I’m not going to be a shredder, but I’ll be able to play at family gatherings, jam with some of bros! That’s really what I wanted!

I hope your journey continues to amaze you as it has me!

My progress took off when I figured out that my Expectation was where fun goes to die. Once I cleared that hurdle I was off to the races and progressing at a surprising and welcome speed. The whole thing got better. Everytime I picked up the guitar I had a small win punctated and caused by fun and to this day it reamains the case 10+ years later. Make play you practice and make your practice fun. Two notes connected in time is more fun than almost anything I know. The only thing more fun is three, and so on and so on.
