  • Progressing 10 minutes at a time

I’m returning after a couple of years. My biggest challenge last time was trying to perfect and got frustrated and stopped. I did my first 10 minutes of day 1 and feel confident with the E and A string of the blues shuffle. As per Tony’s instruction, I’m leaving the lesson now and returning tomorrow to further this lesson.

    Welcome back @Tsuyako Sandy Dunn!

You’re not going to get off that easily, you must tell us more about your journey. When were you here last, for how long?

Perfectionism is your enemy, you must fight that plague with everything you got. Just show up every day and try to get a little bit better! Don’t measure yourself against other players. Everybody learns differently and it simply takes time. Don’t hesitate to ask questions here, plenty of TAC members who have gone through what you are right now and are willing to help you!

Pete is correct… it isn’t about perfection! I definitely have struggled with wanting it to be perfect too quickly. It is way more about little wins. Everything we practice in life usually has bumps in the road. It is supposed to be somewhat of a challenge.

I can 100% honestly say that I’ve had these feelings in several recent daily challenges, but by the end of the 10-15 minutes, even if I’m not playing anywhere near perfect, I’ve improved. It may be very small improvements, but the mentality of progression (no matter how small) vs perfection is the way to approach this.

I’ve even taken that approach to my work outs, career, etc, and it has certainly created a better mindset for me.

Keep it up! You’re on the right track!

    Cheers!
