  • Week 1 of 30 day to play – what do to on the extra days

I have just started the 30 days to play program. Week 1 has three topics or lessons, I’m confused on what to do for the remaining four days. Am I supposed to practice the topics from the lessons? Thanks in advance from a complete beginner

Welcome! You should work through the 30 days at your own pace. Some people prefer to stick to 1 lesson a day, but if you feel like you can zip through them much faster, feel free to do so.

Once you finish that, you’ll do the 5-day deal which will then set you up for the daily challenges. Be sure you start the rest of the program (5-day & daily challenges) on a Monday.

    Enjoy!

Thank you! I’m really struggling with the week 1 topics. I’m trying to trust in the process but on the struggle bus but determined and loving this.

one thing about the struggle bus….after the first year I renamed the struggle bus the freedom bus. You can do this….take small bites. Celebrate digesting those small bites and jettison how you feel about what you don’t know unless it is excitement at becoming the player you intend to be. ETA to a destination will only cramp your progress. The more you do this the more awareness you gain that your playing IS your personal collection of digested tiny bites. Most can be gained in 10min or less. Not the whole thing but a bite of it. As in (general, not a specific example) you might not get the whole scale but you will gain knowledge of the key note and one or two additional notes.

Take as long as you need…. the first week, you may want to keep repeating the 3 lessons 2 or 3 times. If you’ve never played before, take small bites…. it’ll take some time for your fingers to toughen up. The 30 day challenge does NOT have to be completed in 30 days ….it can be longer or shorter. And you don’t have to “master” anything. Do your 10 minutes, mark complete, and that’s a win. If you really like a lesson, practice it on the weekend, or when you have a bit more time. Don’t get frustrated with any of the techniques…keep working on them and then one day, it’ll just click. Good luck!

One thing you will constantly be reminded about while in this program…. Don’t expect to “master” each lesson/technique/etc. Learning guitar isn’t a cake walk. It is challenging, but that is what makes it very rewarding.

Especially once you get into the daily challenges, you may only be able to a very small portion of the exercise. You do whatever you can, even if you focus on just a small part of the tutorial. You allow yourself 10 minutes (or whatever you’re able to do) to practice, then you hit complete! If you can only do 1% of it, that is 1% more than you were able to do before you started… and that is really the point of the program (progress over perfection). All of the techniques rotate and will come back around. You will gradually be able to do more and more of each technique as you continue to see them.

Enjoy the journey. Yes, it won’t be a breeze, but you will be surprised how many little wins you have (and you don’t have to wait forever before you feel like you can play a little somethin’).

Have fun! Refer to this community when you have any questions or wanna brag about your little wins!

Greetings Brian. Looks like we started the same day even! Not that I know exactly what the process is at this point. If I can hit 60% or so of what is in the lesson, typically after a couple of sessions on it, I mark complete and go to the next. I believe that is the intent.

    Enjoy!

I am glad you asked this question. I started the same day as you did and wondered the same. Good luck!
