  • Boom Chick Exercise? Very Confused.

Posted by MrKimm on March 17, 2026 at 10:53 pm

Hi everyone, right now I’m practicing the boom chick exercise specifically the one with the G C and the D chord. I think I noticed after Tony Plucks the E string on the G chord he only strums the A string down and then after he puts the D string he only strums from the G string down or the D string I can’t quite tell. Can somebody please clarify to me how I’m supposed to be strumming after I pluck each individual string on the boom chick exercises? Because it looks like to me Tony is plucking the E and the C Chord in the D chord and strumming only certain strings but not the whole cord am I seeing things or is the instructions very vague?

I think you can probably do whatever sounds good to you. However, when I do the Boom Chicka in songs, once I hit the base note, I don’t hit the base note again when strumming. Hope this helps and makes sense.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I noticed when I started watching Tony do the exercise. I was like i don’t think he’s strumming the bass note once he plucks it. That’s why I asked a question because I was a little confused. He doesn’t say anything in this video about Not strumming all the strings after you plug the base string.
