  • 500 Day Practice Streak

Posted by Moose408 on May 30, 2026 at 9:59 am

More a big win than a small one.

As of today I have practiced 500 days in row without missing a day.
Average daily practice time over the 500 days is 29.6 mins/day.

I was sick on Jan 15th, 2025 and missed that day. Prior to that I had a 462 day streak. So in the last 962 days I have only missed one day of practice.

I have arbitrary rules about what constitutes a practice session

    • Has to be at least 10 mins
    • I have to have a guitar in my hand (studying theory, aural, etc don’t count towards practice time)
    • The practice session has to be focused practice, no noodling, no practice after having a cocktail/beer

I built a travel guitar so I could practice while traveling but I’m leaving on a trip to Europe and the travel guitar is staying home. So I will have 2 weeks with no practice which is going to be weird. Maintaining a streak is one of the things that keeps me motivated. There are certainly many days where I don’t want to practice but I make time for it to keep the streak alive. My wife knows that I want to keep the streak alive and is supportive. She will allow me to sneak away on holidays or other events and will ask me if I’ve practiced if we have something scheduled later in the day. She’s a keeper.

Will start a new streak on June 14th.

Great accomplishment. I took my Martin Backpacker to Europe to keep practice up. But I also would amend the rule to include Music Theory. A good theory book like one from James Shipway’s collection is a great travel companion. Congratulations. And your practice does show in your postings from a few years ago until now. Have fun.

I brought James Shipway books with me and read some in the plane. So yep I’m still learning but I’m fine not counting that as practice.

The travel guitar I built has 1000s of miles on it, it has been to Hawaii, Mexico, all over the continental US. I travel at least 2 weeks every month. The logistics for this particular trip was going to make it difficult to practice everyday, so since I was going to break the streak anyway decided to just take a break. I’m on day 2 of the trip and I already miss my guitar.

500 straight days is nothing to sneeze at! Well done @Moose408 ! Plus you just missed being nearly at 1K!

When I was in Vienna November of ’24 I wanted to bring a guitar but the airlines scared me out of it with their baggage policies. I wasn’t going to let it cost me a couple hundred dollars so I didn’t even bring a laptop. I did log in to TAC a couple of times with my phone from the hotel.

I’m super impressed @Moose408 – 500 days in a row of focused practice – congrats dude! I can confidently say that I pick up my guitar every day – but focused practice, not so much. Keep on pickin’ – I’m sure you will.
