Thanks Stevie, I never wrote a song until my Dad passed away and then wrote over 30 songs in 9 months. I think I am up to 40. Started with just silly songs for family and then got more serious. I took a song writing/production class through “Monthly” and even though it was pop music focused I learned more about structure and development methods. “How Many TImes” was written over a weekend. I tend to play with the guitar until I find a riff and then based on the mood of the riff I start writing. For me I have learned that the key (like most things) is to do it a lot. I try to write frequently, sometimes just a phrase or idea but keep them in a journal. I also have learned to quickly record riffs on my phone because otherwise I forget ideas that I planned to come back to. I have an EP in final production and 2 more currently in work. So much fun – and occasionally healing as well !
