I use/used Contemporary Class Guitar by Will Schmid published by Hal.Leonard. It comes in 3 books – from very basic, chords, scales, note values/timing (basic theory), notes on fretboard. There are songs with just chords and also finger-pick songs. I taught myself to play quite well from sheet music using this (mostly).

You might be able to pick it up second-hand online. There are other tutorial books of a similar style available at music stores. I also had great luck with 101 Songs for Easy Guitar from Wise Publications. It comes in books one and two – I only have “two” getting “one” has to be high on my bucket list. Fantastic selection of music from the 1970s mostly – Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart, The Beatles, Elton, Rolling Stones to name a few.

Best of luck, keep us posted on how you get along, Chris.
