  • B minor chord – easier version?

Posted by BarbaraM on October 14, 2024 at 11:47 am

This particular barre chord (and 99% of the rest) is impossible for me with my short fingers, even on a small guitar. However, I’ve been wanting to learn a song that contains the Bm in the chorus (Teach Your Children Well – Crosby, stills, Nash & Young). I’ve seen videos that supposedly teach an “easier” Bm, but it doesn’t sound like a minor chord of any kind, and certainly doesn’t fit well into the song. I don’t even know what a Bm is supposed to sound like. I’ve tried attempting to figure out the chord notes on my own, maybe using only 3 or 4 strings, moving a different chord shape up the neck– it all sounds like crap.

Short of altering the tune so I can use a chord I can play, what can I do?

Here a couple of ones to try.

The easier one is the same as the barre version except for not playing the A string. Some people still find this one difficult.

Thanks, Moose! The second one works best for me.
