I had the same issue with a lot of chords and I still do when doing chord transitions. While I can play the chord clean if I just sit down and form a C-chord, I might flub it if I’m coming from an F or a C chord. But in the beginning I couldn’t play it clean no matter how much I tried. So the answer is, it will get better with time.
What helped me was pushing my wrist a little bit further under the guitar neck and make sure my fingers are coming at the strings as perpendicular as possible. After time you will improve the bends in your fingers, allowing you to fret more cleanly. Make sure your nails are clipped as short as possible! There aren’t any shortcuts but there are lots of exercises you can do that will help your fretting hand develop.
