I began TAC last Thursday and am on track with Week One of the 30 Days to Play.

Today, I got the 5th 5-day Liftoff email saying:

    1. Start your TAC journey with the 30 Days to Play Guitar Challenge. [I am doing that daily.]

    .

    .

    4. Use the Monday email as your weekly anchor to pull you into TAC. Commit to watching the Monday challenge, where I’ll always aim to get you excited about what you’re learning this week.

At the beginning (I am a 100% new guitar beginner), I thought we should only work on the 30 Days to Play, right?

Should I also do the Weekly Challenges, too?

No, you are doing it right…

It is recommended that you first do the 30 Days to Play, then the 5-day Challenge, and THEN start the Daily Challenges.

The email is generic to everybody here at TAC so it assumes you are doing the Daily Challenges.

    Hello Bryan.

In my opinion and from my experience, I would focus on the 30 day program and spend more than 10 minutes a day in your playing (aka practice) afterwards. Work on your technique and getting your brain to absorb the new chords and techniques. Work on some basic chord changes – as all songs are made of chord changes – and gain some proficiency there. Why? Again, in my opinion, you can easily look at TOO many things and become confused and frustrated – and distracted. Learning guitar has not been as easy for me personally as I envisioned – I was following the 10 minutes a day idea and it did not work for me. Spending 10 minutes a day was a great idea – but I found out that I don’t have hidden guitar skills after all – bummer. So the time expended was great but the skills retained were basic at best. Perhaps look at the 10 minutes per day as the amount of time you’ll listen to the instruction. Like I mentioned, your practice would be afterwards.

Watching the daily challenges is more like a bonus as a beginner. There are some complicated techniques in the daily challenges – so keep that in mind. It can be a source of real frustration if you expect yourself to do the things in the daily challenges with proficiency. Tony is a very skilled and talented player. His teaching is very enjoyable and his demeanor great. He makes it all look easy. And with enough time and focus – give yourself time – you’ll get there. Some say it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert in a skill. Hopefully that’s much less for you!

    Thanks, @Moose408 and @atroutcatcher — that helped a lot!

Question about the Monthly Challenges: Do they vanish after that month, or are all the challenges on the TAC site?

They disappear at the end of the month.

You can save them to your favorites if you want to go back to them, but you have to remember the name the lesson as it doesn’t sort them or have any other identifier.

I and others copy all of the challenge to a spreadsheet with a link to each lesson.

I had this question too… but also if I skipped a day, how come I can not go back and watch that lesson? Don’t the lessons in one week build up to a song? How will I be able to play that song now? Kind of bummed. I also thought I could go back to lessons in at least this week, but it doesn’t look like I can do that either. This messes with my perfection ideals…. makes me want to quit for the week and start over next week. Ugh.

If you are talking about the daily challenges, yes you can go back and play a missed day. Just click on that day and it will load up. Today I missed yesterday’s daily challenge and did it along with today’s challenge. After the month is up you can’t do that. You can save the challenges though and then play anytime by adding to favorites. Just click the heart below the video right corner and it will highlight. Then go to your favorites and you can play it anytime.
