Day 60 of The 100 Day Project
Posted by Michelle-PSL on March 31, 2021 at 6:24 pmHurray! 60% Done! If I wasn’t so tenacious (that’s just a nice term for stubborn as heck), I’d throw in the towel right now. This is a really tough time for me – work-wise. So everything I do during the weekdays has to be quick and easy to learn. Thank goodness I stumbled upon this little tune – Midnight Special. Used alternate tuning D G C F A D, and it was so low, I had to capo to be able to sing. As usual, thanks for watching! Having a tough time with the new site and connection speed, so I apologize for not sending thanks in the Forum. Will get to it soon…

Oh, but the rest of us are all cheering you on, and incredibly impressed!
Tell you what. You manage to do this and I will join you next January if you do it again. No promises on memorization though, I would loose my head if it weren’t bolted on tight.
I think I can record something every day though.

Great song @Michelle_in_PSL . Huzzah got tenaciousness.
I used the same tuning to play “Jim Jones at Botany Bay” from the movie Hateful Eight.

What a project, Being tenacious works and this was another check mark for a song well done.

Great job, as usual, Michelle 👏
One great advantage of this project:
It is dead easy to figure out the completion percentage 😂Question to the alternate tuning:
As far as I can see, you have tuned all strings down a whole step from the normal tuning, and then capoed up 1½ step.
Which explains how you could just use normal chord shapes.
Was this done to reduce string tension?-
Oh my goodness, @Niels , I wish I had an answer for you. I was just following the guitar tab on the tuning. And then couldn’t sing in that key. So I capo’d to be able to sing it. I don’t know if the song arranger wanted a bassy or more twangy sound.

Another great job with a classic tune…thanks again Michelle. I appreciate your tenacity (as a fellow stubborn person).

Did you say you were a native New Yorker, @SoCal_Ian ? Well, I was born in the Bronx, and grew up hard-headed.😁 And thank you for your kind words!
