  • G chord options

Hi TAC family. Am I missing something? Or does Tony sometimes not use the 2nd fret on the A for his G Chord? He also seems to use the 3rd fret on the B string when that is not what the tab shows. Does it matter or is it player preference? Thanks

The G Major chord is going to have a G-B-D by definition. But as Tony says often chords are “implied” and one’s ear will hear the rest of the chord if one of the notes is missing. Power chords will do this. I’m not sure what you are seeing in the video vs the tab but perhaps the above helps.

Thanks. Sometimes it looks like Tony doesn’t include the B in the chord. It looks like the A string is open. I’m in the Hotel California weekly challenge right now. Thanks again.

Ron, you will notice that Tony uses different variations of many chords but specifically the G has all sorts of variants and he often explains this in the daily challenges but not necessarily every time it’s used. You can leave the B string open but I have also seen where he leaves the A string open, but not both.

On the Fender (Tuner) App you’ll find 7 G Major Chord shapes, but there are actually more since you can use different finger combinations for some of them.
