Growth requires getting out there
My #smallwin today, last night I finally played at an open mic. In the process I met my better looking and currently more talented guitar journey doppelgänger, had real world advice given and accepted it, and no one criticized or threw vegetables.
What I learned:
Knowing it better is required to play live in focus. Knowing it and relying on sheets doesn’t work as well.
Microphones are troublesome beasts, and for a dynamic in a bar setting, there is only one way to use them, and like the music, it will help in future to prepare more.
If people know the song, they will sing along, even when the missing mic kicks in. Better for me if I am confident enough to sing more loudly, lest the audience pull me to a place different than the one I chose.
It’s a lot of fun, and next time (they did say I should come back) I, the music, and the experience will be better.
Note, these OTHER people are pretty darn good.
