With all the good advice I got from some of you I bought my Yamaha Guitar. So now I have another question. As I’m watching Tony about posture and position of the guitar for instance the neck parallel with the floor and so on. When I keep the neck parallel with the floor I can’t get my hand twisted around enough to play the notes correctly. I tried bringing the neck up to compensate but it doesn’t seem to be enough. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions or Am I just over thinking this. I’m trying to relax and be comfortable. I would appreciate any help.

    Thank You

There’s no reason why you can’t raise the neck high up to where you’re comfortable. Doing this can help improve your posture and reduce strain on your neck and shoulders, us beginners need all the help we can get.

Thank you Pete. I will give that a shot and see how that works out.

What @petelanger says is good advice. There is no perfect way to hold the guitar. What is comfortable for you is the best position. Some classical players hold the guitar on the left leg with the neck almost vertical. So, find what works for you, and don’t be afraid of experimenting with different positions.

I try to think of my hand as the place where things tie together but are not anchored, it is always actively flowing….notice it is not moving…it is flowing. Where it ends up is more a function of my elbow and shoulder. From the support of arms and back my hand is free and my fingers become loose and movable the more my arm/back/shoulder support my hand. Time in the saddle is the only way I found to reinforce and build this platform. Precision overtakes force. It takes time.
