  • How I TAC…

Posted by theacousticbear on April 30, 2021 at 9:13 pm

1.) How many days per week do you play?

My goal is to play every day…a little or a lot…I also try and find a day on the weekend to concentrate solely on learning music theory or something academic about playing. Does this always happen? No…kids, dogs, work, life.

But I have used habit stacking in the past for other goals and when Tony mentioned it…I had a very “duhhh” moment. So getting in a little bit every day along with my other daily habits has worked exceedingly well.

2.) What time of day do you play?

Early…because…knowing me… My opportunity will be gone in a flash if I don’t. So usually soon after I get out of bed and have gotten my morning routine rolling. This begins somewhere around 4:45 a.m.

    3.) Where do you play?

I have the privilege…nay, honor…of playing in my laundry room/ second pantry/ home office. When taking a picture for this post it was hard not to get canned corn and a giant tub of pretzels in the picture. It is honestly a really good space. It is clean and quiet and I can shut it off from the rest of the house when I practice. It also has a large window that looks out on the mountains to the east.

4.) What was your guitar life like before having a guitar routine & how has implementing a consistent guitar routine helped you? (if possible name 3 ways).

My guitar routine was in shambles and nonexistent. I had received a guitar as a birthday present a few years ago and ended up giving it away because I couldn’t get anywhere with learning anything.

Respect: Being consistent has opened up knowledge and understanding that I had not had before. This in turn has given me immense respect not only for the instrument and its potential, but what really good players have accomplished over their musical lifetime.

Consistency: Consistency has begotten consistency. In many aspects of my life, Even having only used TAC for a little while…it has allowed me to use the fundamentals of TAC and apply them to other aspects of my life (mostly bringing other habits and desires to full circle).

Peace: Now that I can see some sort of light at the end of the tunnel…really learning…reeeeally learning some “stuff” has allowed me to have peace and understanding with music and its gifts that I had never known.

5.) Bonus Question: What is one non-guitar item that is a must have in your guitar routine?

    Coffee!!!

But more importantly: Grace! The concept of unearned love and forgiveness. Giving myself grace every single time I play. In the past I kept myself to unrealistic expectations and it ruined any enjoyment, much less any attainment of playing goals. I have learned and practiced on giving myself grace on this and many many other aspects of life and it has helped in so many ways.
