I have fingernails on my right picking hand and no finger nails on the left hand
Where are your calluses located on your fretting fingers. If you finger with your fingertips next to the finger nail your calluses will be close to your clipped finger nails. If you “cheat” like I used to you and have more bend in the finger tip angle your calluses will be more on the finger pad area, if you have calluses at all. For the longest time I wondered why I did not have calluses although I played guitar pretty much every day. A while back a I bought a hybrid nylon guitar and because the nylon strings are thicker there isn’t as much room to “cheat” and have more bend in your finger instead of actually using your finger tip to fret strings. So, I had to relearn how to fret to achieve clean tones on that guitar. I practiced with that Taylor 712 daily for about a year. It improved my fingering and I actually began developing calluses even though it was a nylon string guitar.
When using the steel string guitar my fingering has improved and I get much cleaner chords that I used to just because of better finger angle when fretting.
