  • I Showed Up!

I was on vacation for over 10 days until the end of last week and I probably missed about 2 weeks worth of sessions preparing for my trip and then catching up on stuff after returning. But this week I’m back and showing up every day and it’s pleasing that my routine, though interrupted, has not been destroyed. I thought I would share Tony’s message at the end of today’s challenge because:
    1. It’s worth repeating
    2. Some people may not have listened to it all the way through and jumped to the Scales and Backing Tracks

I want to talk about your guitar journey and prioritizing showing up to play guitar for a minimum of 10 minutes:

I think so often the focus is on… did I get it or didn’t I get it? And we chalk up a playing session to a victory if we got it and a failure if we didn’t get it.

That’s not true. If you simply show up, that is your victory for the day! If you have this consistent streak of showing up time after time, I can guarantee progress, I will guarantee your progress!

If you look at your playing sessions as pass or fail, you’re going to create maybe a negative cloud around playing. And if you feel like I failed the last couple of times, I don’t really feel like playing today since I don’t want to fail again… Please, please try and avoid thinking of it that way! Thinking of showing up as your win is exactly how I want your brain to look at playing. Everything after that is bonus; plus showing up regularly is again what leads to that consistent progress. The more consistent you are, the better guitar player you will be the more fun you will have because it’s about accumulation of skills. And that’s what consistency provides you, so again: prioritize showing up! Don’t worry about the end result of your playing session for that day; show up for 10 minutes, a focused 10 minutes, then Mark complete when you’re done! And pat yourself on the back because you showed up!

An observation that will light your path for miles!!! This may be the only game where the winning is the playing: it begins the second you start.
