  • Intro + Finger (calluses)

Hey guys!! Happy to be here- just joined a few minutes ago.. Tony is TOTALLY right! … I was a total ‘dabbler’ and would play a little here and there, since I was a sophomore in college.. I practiced for 2 years and got descent, but fell off the wagon since I didn’t know what to play or how to improve my skill. I always thought I had to practice for hours on hours to become a “master,” and it got less and less fun without direction, fun, and inconsistency. I do have a question though regarding calluses on my fingers.. should I buy those silicone fingertip protectors, or just not be a wuss and stick it out? Appreciate the feedback, and excited to learn and have fun!

Hey @Tbeats great to hear from you and your excitement/ enthusiasm for learning the guitar. I was in the same boat as you. I’ve been following Tac for about 3 months now and progressed more than I have in the last 25 years! Admittedly the guitar never really left it’s case.

I haven’t used those silicon things but I’d say, stick with it and build up those calluses. so you don’t become reliant on a product. Once your fingers have become accustomed I imagine the finger glove things would only get in the way also it’s another thing to lose I can’t keep hold of picks 😂

Hi @Tbeats . Glad you are finding a way to become more than a dabbler. I have no experience with the tip protectors so I won’t speak to that. I do know that your fingers will toughen and callous if you stick with it. Not fun in the short run but the result keeps me playing. I find there is more to it than not having sore finger tips. It provides me better tone and the harder they get the less pressure it takes to make the string ring. I can get on and off a tone faster. If you go with the tips I would be curious to know what you think.
