It just seems to add up
As I keep playing a little every day suddenly it just seems to add up.for instance I’ll just be innocently playing an old folk song when I notice I’ve added a hammer on out of the blue. Or I might suddenly add an unplanned short run or lick between chords. It’s not really thought about but seems the right feeling thing to do. It’s like for weeks I’m just plodding along kind of going through the challenges not realizing that my poor old brain is storing this bit and that bit. And then, WHAMO! Out of no where comes progress. Yea!

I just LOVE your post here! And, wow, it is very true! I think that’s one of the reasons that so many folks give-up when picking up the guitar; is that the results they expect are NOT instant. Many times, you don’t even realize your brain IS actually picking this stuff up…. but it takes some time— like you said— and then, out of the blue— there it is!
Again– (like always)– your post is right on. Thanks for posting it!

I also start hearing things like runs, or pull offs, hammer-ons, bends in songs, double stops, drones that I did not realize where there but have become conscious of them. When I add them to my playing, suddenly it is richer and has more texture. It sneaks up on you.

Yes! I’m feeling myself progress and become much more comfortable with guitar techniques I’ve struggled with before. Thanks.

This on was a treat today. I got it with ease. That sense of accomplishment inspires me to come back. Some days are easier than others.
